Holiday Magic in the Woods – 2025 Christmas Mini Sessions


There’s something truly special about photographing families during the holidays. This year’s Christmas Mini Sessions were held at the Opossum Hollow Woodland Area in Knob Noster State Park, and they couldn’t have been more magical. Over three beautiful days, November 15th, 16th, and 24th, 2025, I had the joy of working with ten wonderful families who brought all the warmth and cheer of the season.


The setup was simple yet cozy, perfect for capturing that Christmas charm. A dark wooden triangle stood at the center, wrapped in lush green garland with pinecones and hints of red woven throughout. On one side sat two little Christmas trees and a few metal presents, while on the other, a vintage metal truck added a nostalgic touch. I laid a soft cream rug underneath, topped with three festive Christmas pillows that tied it all together. For the kids, I brought a white rocking horse for the little ones and a rustic brown wooden chair for the older kids. The entire scene felt like stepping into a Christmas card; natural, cozy, and full of heart.


The first two days, on the 15th and 16th, were bright and sunny, with golden light streaming through the trees. The sunlight caught the garland and the kids’ laughter as they played, making everything sparkle just a little brighter. On the 24th, the sky turned soft and gray, but that moody, overcast light gave the photos a timeless winter feel that I absolutely loved. Sometimes the cloudy days bring out the richest tones, and this session proved that beautifully.


Each family brought their own personality to the shoot. Some had toddlers giggling on the rocking horse, others had older kids showing off their best smiles, and a few had those sweet sibling moments that melt your heart. Watching them interact, hugging, laughing, and just being themselves, made every photo feel genuine and full of joy.


It’s sessions like these that remind me why I love being a family photographer in Missouri. Every family brought their own magic to the set, and by the end of it all, I felt like I had celebrated Christmas ten times over.


These sessions were the perfect start to the holiday season; filled with laughter, love, and a little touch of woodland Christmas magic.
