Laughter, Personality, and a Little Adventure Around the Farm
Some of my favorite couples sessions are the ones where we spend more time laughing than worrying about getting the "perfect" pose, and Amanda and Charles' couples session at Hazel Hill Farm was exactly that. These two had me laughing from beginning to end, and they weren't afraid to simply be themselves in front of the camera. That always makes my job more fun, and even better, it creates photos that actually feel like the people in them.
It was a beautiful day at Hazel Hill Farm, although the sunshine was definitely showing off and giving us some really bright light. Bright sunny days can sometimes be challenging for portraits because direct sunlight creates stronger highlights and shadows. That's one of the reasons I love photographing at Hazel Hill Farm. There are so many different areas to work with that I can adjust where we're shooting based on the light while still giving my clients plenty of variety in their gallery.
And we definitely took advantage of that variety during this session!
Amanda and Charles were up for exploring, so we went all over the farm. We started around the vintage truck and flowers, which gave us a fun mix of rustic textures and softer natural details. From there, we headed toward one of my favorite parts of the property, the pond and dock. The open view across the water always creates such a beautiful backdrop and gives couples room to interact naturally rather than feeling like they have to stand perfectly still for every photo.
We also made our way to the swing before finishing around the grain bins, which gave us yet another completely different look. That's what makes Hazel Hill Farm such a great location for couples photography. Within one session, we can move from romantic flowers and water views to rustic farm elements without ever leaving the property.
More than anything, though, Amanda and Charles made this session what it was. They joked around, laughed with each other, and trusted me to capture them as they really are. I always encourage couples to interact, be silly, and forget about the camera whenever they can. Perfect poses are great, but genuine laughter, little looks, and the moments that happen in between are usually the photographs that end up meaning the most.
By the end of the session, we had explored just about every corner of Hazel Hill Farm, laughed a lot, and created a gallery filled with their personalities and connection.
Amanda and Charles, thank you for spending the day laughing with me and trusting me to capture your relationship exactly as it is. This session was an absolute blast!
