Cold Temps, Big Smiles, and Winter Formal Magic
Winter formal photos always come with a little excitement, and this session with Clinton High School students was no exception. Before heading off to the dance, several Clinton high schoolers made the trip up to Knob Noster State Park for their Winter Formal pictures, and even though the weather was far from ideal, their energy and excitement made the session a success.
It was a very cold and gloomy afternoon, right around 20 degrees, and as we were taking photos, it even started to lightly snow. The cold was no joke. The girls looked absolutely stunning in their dresses, but you could see the goosebumps on their arms almost immediately. Between shots, they ran for coats and blankets, laughing as they tried to warm back up before stepping back in front of the camera.
The guys were dressed just as sharp, looking incredibly handsome in their formal wear, but they were definitely feeling the cold too. Even so, every single one of them was a trooper. No complaining, no hesitation; just quick smiles, teamwork, and a great attitude as we moved efficiently through each group to keep everyone as comfortable as possible.
What I loved most about this session was how supportive they were of one another. Friends helped adjust outfits, shared blankets, and encouraged each other through the cold. Despite the freezing temperatures, there was so much laughter and excitement in the air. That mix of nerves, anticipation, and friendship is what makes high school formal photography so special.
Knob Noster State Park provided a beautiful winter backdrop, even under gray skies. The soft light and falling snow added a quiet, seasonal feel to the images, giving these formal portraits a timeless winter look. Sometimes the most challenging conditions lead to the most memorable photos, and this session was a perfect example of that.
These Clinton High School students handled the cold with grace and positivity, and I’m so glad I could capture such a fun and meaningful moment before their big night.
