A Windy Winter Day and a Whole Lot of Love


Winter maternity sessions have a quiet beauty all their own, and Jackie’s maternity photoshoot at Knob Noster State Park was a perfect example of that. We met on December 28th at 1:30 pm, bundled up and ready to take on the elements. It was a cloudy afternoon, hovering right around 30 degrees, with strong winds that made it feel even colder but Jackie, her husband, and her bonus daughter were absolute troopers from start to finish.


We began the session in the Opossum Hollow Woodland Area, surrounded by tall trees and a peaceful road where branches stretched overhead. Even with the cold air and gusty wind, the setting felt calm and intimate. Jackie absolutely glowed, and the way her family stayed close, laughing, encouraging one another, and embracing the moment, made everything feel warm despite the winter chill.


From there, we made our way to Buteo Lake, ending the session near the bench overlooking the water. The lake was quiet and still, creating a soft, reflective backdrop that felt perfect for this season of life. Those final moments captured something really special; anticipation, love, and the calm before a new chapter begins.


What stood out most during this session was the strength and positivity this family brought with them. The wind whipped around us, hands were tucked into pockets between shots, and jackets went back on quickly but no one complained. Instead, there were smiles, laughter, and a shared understanding that these moments were worth it. That kind of energy makes such a difference, and it shows beautifully in the final images.


Maternity sessions are about more than documenting a pregnancy. They’re about capturing connection, excitement, and the love surrounding a growing family. This session at Knob Noster State Park was a reminder that even on the coldest days, warmth shows up in the people we’re with.


Jackie and her family handled the winter weather with grace and joy, and I’m so thankful I got to capture this meaningful season for them.
