Sunlight, Laughter, and Sweet Moments Before Baby Arrives



Nicole’s maternity session at Knob Noster State Park was one of those sessions where everything came together so beautifully. The weather was absolutely perfect, and we started in the Opossum Hollow Woodland Area, where the sunlight filtered through the trees in the most gorgeous way. That soft glow surrounded Nicole so naturally, and she looked absolutely stunning standing in that golden light. It was the kind of setting that makes you stop for a moment and appreciate just how special this season of life really is.

After capturing some portraits of Nicole, we took a few of all three of them together; Austin, Nicole, and Cade. Cade brought so much personality to the session and made so many of the photos feel full of life and joy. He had everyone laughing, and those genuine moments always end up being some of my favorites. There’s something so special about including a child in a maternity session because it tells more of the story, not just of a baby on the way, but of a family already full of love and excitement.

I also spent some time photographing just Austin and Nicole together, and even then Cade stayed part of the fun. He was behind the scenes making them laugh, which in turn had me laughing too. He was just so sweet and full of energy, and he added such a natural warmth to the entire session. Those in-between moments of laughter and connection are often the ones that feel the most meaningful later.

From there, we headed to Lake Buteo for the second part of their session. The water, the open space, and the evening light created such a peaceful backdrop. The sun was hitting them just right, giving everything that soft, beautiful glow that makes maternity photos feel timeless. It was the perfect way to end the session and capture this season for their growing family.

Sessions like this are why I love maternity photography in Missouri. They’re about more than just documenting a pregnancy they’re about preserving the anticipation, the connection, and the joy that comes with waiting for someone so loved.

Nicole’s session was filled with warmth, laughter, and so much love, and I’m so grateful I got to capture this beautiful chapter for their family.
