Sunshine, Wind, and Sweet First Birthday Moments


The Russell family session at Knob Noster State Park was one of those afternoons that felt full of life from start to finish. It was a breezy day, with the wind moving through the trees and fields, but the sun was shining beautifully and gave everything the most natural, glowing light. Sessions like this are a reminder that you don’t need perfect conditions; just the right people and a little bit of sunshine.

We spent time capturing family moments together, along with a few special first birthday photos for Cooper, who will be turning one soon. He was such a sweet and handsome little guy, full of personality and expressions that kept us all smiling the entire time. From curious looks to big laughs, he made every moment feel fun and genuine. Those little expressions are what make milestone sessions so meaningful; they capture who a child is right in that exact moment of life.

Even with the wind, everything came together so naturally. The light wrapped around the family in such a beautiful way, and the movement in the trees added a soft, organic feel to the images. Knob Noster State Park continues to be one of my favorite locations for family photography in Missouri, and this session was another perfect example of why. The variety of scenery and natural light always creates a timeless backdrop.

What stood out most to me during this session was the love between Cooper and his parents. You could see it in the way they looked at him, the way they held him close, and how easily they laughed together. It’s those connections that truly bring photos to life. The Russell family was such a joy to work with, and their warmth made the entire session feel effortless.

Sessions like this are about more than just photos they’re about capturing a season of life that passes so quickly. First birthdays, growing families, and these everyday moments are the ones that become the most treasured over time.

Cooper’s sweet personality and the love surrounding him made this session unforgettable, and I’m so grateful I got to capture this special milestone for their family.
