Generations, Laughter, and a Whole Lot of Love
Some photo sessions feel extra special, and this one truly felt like photographing my own family. I had the pleasure of capturing a big family session with Dennis and Loree Walrath, their three kids, Kristen, Haylee, and Destry, along with their spouses and children. We photographed the session on Dennis and Loree’s land in Clinton, Missouri, which made it even more meaningful and personal.
The afternoon was bright and sunny, with just a slight chill in the air, perfect weather for a family photoshoot. The open space allowed the kids to run, laugh, and play freely, which always leads to the most genuine moments. Despite the excitement, the kids did an amazing job listening and following directions. Watching them interact so naturally with one another made every photo feel full of life and connection.
One thing I loved about this session was how much everyone worked together. The older kids stepped in to help the younger ones sit, stand, and stay engaged, which made everything flow smoothly. Taylor, Destry’s wife, was a huge help during the session, assisting with posing and keeping things organized while still making it fun. That kind of teamwork makes such a difference, especially during larger family sessions.
Having known the Walrath family for over 20 years, this session felt incredibly familiar and comfortable. There was no pressure, just laughter, conversation, and a shared sense of togetherness. Those long-standing connections showed through in every interaction, from playful moments between cousins to quiet smiles shared between generations.
Big family sessions like this are a reminder of why family photography is so meaningful. It’s not just about getting everyone in the frame, it’s about capturing the relationships, the laughter, and the love that exists between them. Photographing the Walrath family on their own land, surrounded by people they love, made this session even more special.
This session felt like home in the best way possible, and I’m so grateful I got to capture memories for a family that means so much to me.
