Cooler Weather, Beautiful Blooms, and Memories Made Among the Wildflowers


The second evening of my Wildflower Mini Sessions at Hazel Hill Farm couldn't have been more different from the first. Instead of battling the summer heat, we were treated to much cooler temperatures that made the evening comfortable for everyone. It was the perfect setting for an incredible lineup of sessions, including a beautiful family of five and three wonderful senior sessions. Every session brought its own personality, making the evening one I'll remember for a long time.

One of the things I love most about photographing at Hazel Hill Farm during wildflower season is that no two sessions ever look the same. The colorful blooms create a naturally textured backdrop, while the open fields allow the evening light to wrap beautifully around each subject. Wildflower season is short, which makes these sessions feel even more special. It's one of those times of year that creates portraits with a look you simply can't recreate any other season.

The family of five was such a joy to photograph. Their love for one another was obvious from the moment we started, and their youngest daughter kept everyone smiling with her adorable little bit of sass. She had the cutest personality and wasn't afraid to let it shine. Those playful moments always become some of my favorite images because they capture exactly who a child is at that stage of life.

The senior sessions were equally memorable. Two of the seniors have been best friends for nearly ten years, and they wanted to celebrate this milestone by having their senior photos taken together. Watching them laugh, encourage one another, and simply enjoy the experience made the session feel so genuine. Their friendship added another layer of meaning to the evening, creating portraits they'll be able to look back on for years to come.

Our final senior was just as sweet as could be. She brought such a kind, joyful spirit to the session, and every location seemed to complement her perfectly. I also brought along a vintage upholstered chair for the senior portraits, and it quickly became one of my favorite elements of the evening. The chair added a timeless touch that paired beautifully with the colorful wildflowers, creating portraits that felt both elegant and relaxed.

As a Missouri photographer, evenings like this remind me why I love creating mini sessions. Every family, every senior, and every story is unique, and it is such a privilege to preserve these moments in a setting as beautiful as Hazel Hill Farm.
